July 14, 2021 - Brown County Youth Compete at National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships
Grand Island, Nebraska was the 2021 site for over 600 4-H top qualifiers from 32 states to attend the National competition held June 20 – 25. According to Doug Thompson, Wisconsin State 4-H Shooting Sports Coordinator, “this annual competition for most youth who participated this summer has been two years in the making. Covid 19 forced the National Committee to cancel the 2020 event so those still age eligible had the option to compete in this year’s championships.”
Twenty- four WI 4-H Shooting Sports team members and their families arrived in Grand Island June 20, 2021 for the competition. These youth competed on one of the following shooting sports disciplines teams: Air Rifle or Pistol, Archery Compound or Recurve, Smallbore Rifle or Pistol, Shotgun, and Hunting & Wildlife Skills. Each discipline has three different events on three different days. For example, the shotgun team shot trap, skeet, and sporting clays over the three days of competition. Each state is allowed to have one team of four youth per discipline.
Brown County 4-H was represented by Adam Wesolowski and Matthew Ossmann at the National Championships shooting in the shotgun discipline. They earned the honor to represent Wisconsin at the 2021 4-H National Championships by posting top scores statewide in 4-H Shooting Sports Invitational events. Congratulations to Adam and Matthew for proudly represented Wisconsin 4-H at the National Championships and thank you to the coaches, volunteers and involved parents who make our shooting sports program successful.
