Getting started with the new BrownDog GIS mapping site

1) Find your area of interest. Use the search box in the upper-left corner of the map to search for a location, or simply zoom in using your mouse wheel or the pinch-to-zoom gesture on a phone or tablet. If you're using a GPS-enabled phone or tablet, you can also locate your current position by tapping the Watch Location button (the A inside a circle).

2) View information about a location. Click or tap anywhere on the map to view information about that location, including parcel information and details from any visible map layers that are currently enabled (checked on) in the Map Layers list.

What do the map symbols mean? A map key or legend isn't compiled yet, but you can identify most map features by simply clicking on it on the map to view pop-up information. For example, if you're unsure what a dashed line represents, simply click it to display additional details about the line.

3) Explore additional map layers. Use the Map Layers list on the right side of the map to turn additional map layers on or off. Many layers are organized into groups. To expand a group and view its individual layers, click the > arrow next to the group name. Note: The Main Map is similar to the original BrownDog GIS map and includes many of the most commonly used map layers in a single view.

You can also select one of the Thematic Maps from the list on the left side of the map to view information tailored to a specific purpose, such as parks and recreation, or finding a survey for a parcel, looking up district information, etc. Seasonal or special interest maps may appear in the Thematic Maps list on occasion.
