The County Veterans Service Office (CVSO) connects veterans, their dependents, and survivors to their earned benefits to improve the quality of their lives. The office serves over 16,000 veterans, and over 5,000 widows, widowers, and dependents. The office connects them to a wide range of federal and state benefits to include, VA Healthcare, service disability Compensation for injuries incurred in the service and Pensions that assist in offsetting medical expenses. The office also assists them in applying for over fifty-five different kinds of benefits that are available. The office receives no federal funding and a small $13,000 grant from the state but brings a significant amount of federal dollars into Brown County that in-turn has an enormous economic impact for Brown County. A well training and VA Accredited staff assists in providing information on the benefits, strategizing on how to maximize those benefits, and then assists in completing the complicated claims forms, obtaining medical opinions from local providers, and managing and tracking the claim from inception to completion. This can include filing for appeals up to the Board of Veterans Appeals in Washington D.C. We also assist in obtaining necessary service personnel and medical military records as well as private medical records to support those claims.
The office also assists them with applying for placement at Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, Union Grove or Chippewa Falls, and administers the financial aid fund to provide aid to needy veterans, and their widows and widowers. The office provides information and referrals to other agencies such as the Green Bay Vets Center, Veterans Outreach Rehabilitation Program, Center for Veterans issues, Aging Disability Resource Center, Job Service, Veterans Service Organizations and a myriad of other agencies in Brown County. The office serves as an advisor to the Veterans Recognition Subcommittee, ADRC veteran education program, Veterans Court Team, Brown County Coalition for Suicide Prevention, Brown County Homelessness Coalition, and United Patriotic Society. The CVSO and staff are members of and advise The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans, and Vietnam Veterans of America.
Lastly, the office seeks to provide top-notch customer service. Many veterans have sacrificed so much physically and mentally in service to our country. We will seek to continue to expand services to veterans and their dependents in the community, connect more of them to their benefits, remove them from other county programs over to VA programs, and greatly improve the quality of their lives.
