New Courthhouse Procedures.

As of October 14th, 2025 all visitors of the Brown County Courthouse will now have a single point of entrance and exit located on the East Walnut Street side of the building. (The previous entrance point on Doty St is now an emergency exit ONLY). 


Please arrive a few minutes earlier to the courthouse as:
All visitors will be required to submit all carried items to the baggage scanner and search process. 
All visitors must pass through a metal detector and may be asked to submit to additional searches via wand or hand search. 

Prohibited Items in the Courthouse: 
  • Firearms, pellet guns, BB guns or replica firearms
  • ammunition
  • Knive, boxcutters, razorblades, edged weapons and sharp- pointed objects
  • Club-like items (e.g- batons, baseball bats, golf clubs)
  • Martial arts weapons
  • Brass knuckles
  • Mace, pepper spray, or other chemical agents
  • Electric weapons
  • Skateboards, rollerblades, rollerskates, bicycles, or mopeds
  • Any intoxicating beverage (unless prior approval received for events) or illegal drugs
  • Flammable or explosive materials 
  • Tools unless the person is an authorized contractor
  • Any equipment, apparatus, or machined failing to comply with local fire codes, unless exempt, or property that if utilized would interfere with an electrical or mechanical building system without permission from Facility Director. 
  • Other itesm that could pose a danger to others
  • Other items that could disrupt court proceedings
  • Excesive amounts of bags, purses, backpacks, etc. 
Please return any of the items listed above to your vehicle or home. A disposal box is available for items that are surrendered and will not be returned. 

The Brown County Courthouse complex hours of operation are from 7:45a.m- 4:30p.m. Doors will remain unlocked until the conclusion of the last hearing of the day.

Sheriff Todd Delain

The purpose of the Brown County Sheriff's Office is to provide protection to the citizens of Brown County. Protection involves the prevention, detection, apprehension, prosecution, and detention of those persons who violate criminal or civil, state or local laws. Protection additionally involves the prevention and detection of those circumstances which prove dangerous to all county citizens. 

The investigative function involves interviewing, interrogating, crime scene processing, and research (including use of computer resources) related to criminal matters. The jail functions to provide a safe, secure, and humane environment for individuals confined to jail custody. Patrol services are intended to provide protection for the life and property of county residents. The support function assists all other divisions as well as provides record keeping, data management, inmate transportation and courthouse security. The standards function involves the employment background checks, internal affairs, departmental training, and community education.
