September 10, 2024 - Corn Silage Whole-Plant Moisture Testing Opportunities

It's that time of year—it's corn silage season! Brown, Door, and Kewaunee County Extension will be holding the annual corn silage dry down days on Monday, September 16, at Rio Creek Feed Mill, Inc., 715 Frontier Road (Luxemburg location), and September 30, at Olson Family Farm, 580 County Rd S (Sturgeon Bay location). The events run 9 AM to noon both days. On-site sampling will occur on September 16, get your results within minutes. Samples collected on September 30 will be delivered to Dairyland Laboratories, Inc. in De Pere and results returned the next day.
Things to know:
- Limit of 2 samples per farm, free of charge. Additional samples will be charged $15 per sample.
- 4-5 stalks, cut at normal chopping height, should be gathered, bundled, and tagged with the following information: Name, address, phone, email, variety, maturity, plant date, BMR (yes or no), fungicide, and previous crop
- Samples delivered the day before will not be tested.
- Nitrate testing is available for an additional $14 per sample.
