FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Spectacular Science: Candy Chemistry Opens Saturday!
Green Bay, WI---September 7, 2023--- As part of the Neville Public Museum’s internally created Spectacular Science exhibition Candy Chemistry opens to the public Saturday, September 9, 2023. Dive into the sugary world of candy and explore the complex science behind making tasty treats.
Candymaking in Wisconsin started in the late 1800s with recipes brought over by German and Swiss immigrants. During the early 20th century, candymaking in Wisconsin boomed and the state became one of the top producers of chocolate in the United States. This period also saw the emergence of many small, family-run candy companies that specialized in small-batch confections.
In Brown County, the candy making industry continued to grow throughout mid-1900s. Small, family-run businesses could be found throughout the county. Some of the businesses incorporated restaurants and soda fountains into their businesses as well.
Spectacular Science: Candy Chemistry features over 20 historic artifacts and 5 custom hands-on interactives, blending the science of candymaking with our regional history.
