School Resource Officers

The Brown County Sheriff's Office staffs 5 School Resource Officer positions.

• 3 positions encompass the Howard-Suamico School District
  • Deputy Janssen resides at Bay Port High School
  • Deputy Werner resides at Bayview Middle School
  • Deputy Coffey resides at Lineville Intermediate School
• Deputy Smith is the SRO for all schools in the Wrightstown school district
• Deputy Dzekute is the SRO for all schools in the Denmark school district. 

 

• This position is designed to be a proactive position in law enforcement
• it is an important resource for school staff, law enforcement, and the young people in the community
• Many crimes can be solved or stopped because of the relationship that the officer establishes between the school, community, and law enforcement
• This position has been proven to be an extremely effective tool in solving and preventing crime and also to reduce and prevent violence

SRO Job Duties: 

• Establish a relationship with students so they feel comfortable coming to an officer with their problems concerning law enforcement or any other matter
• Assist the school administration in keeping a safe school atmosphere 
• Enforce state and municipal law in and around the school
• Provide teachers, administrators, and other school officials with information concerning the law 
• Provide classroom presentations for students in areas of mutual concern 
• Assist any law enforcement agency in investigative matters
• Assist the business community concerning juvenile matters
• Deputies Smith and Dzekute also teach Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program to Wrightstown and Denmark 5th graders
