School Resource Officers
The Brown County Sheriff's Office staffs 5 School Resource Officer positions.
- 3 positions encompass the Howard-Suamico School District
- Deputy Janssen resides at Bay Port High School
- Deputy Werner resides at Bayview Middle School
- Deputy Coffey resides at Lineville Intermediate School
- Deputy Smith is the SRO for all schools in the Wrightstown school district
- Deputy Dzekute is the SRO for all schools in the Denmark school district.
- This position is designed to be a proactive position in law enforcement
- it is an important resource for school staff, law enforcement, and the young people in the community
- Many crimes can be solved or stopped because of the relationship that the officer establishes between the school, community, and law enforcement
- This position has been proven to be an extremely effective tool in solving and preventing crime and also to reduce and prevent violence
- Establish a relationship with students so they feel comfortable coming to an officer with their problems concerning law enforcement or any other matter
- Assist the school administration in keeping a safe school atmosphere
- Enforce state and municipal law in and around the school
- Provide teachers, administrators, and other school officials with information concerning the law
- Provide classroom presentations for students in areas of mutual concern
- Assist any law enforcement agency in investigative matters
- Assist the business community concerning juvenile matters
- Deputies Smith and Dzekute also teach Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program to Wrightstown and Denmark 5th graders
